Music Students Celebrate Success at Solent Sound Competition
Eight bands representing colleges from across the South Coast competed for first place at Southampton Solent University’s annual Solent Sound competition. For the fourth time in six years, Fareham College were proud to take home the prestigious title.
The Music students at Fareham College spent a lot of time perfecting their performances and after competing in a battle of the bands show, ‘Maddison Avenue’ were put forward to represent the department at the competition.
Level 3 Music student and lead vocalist and guitarist for the band, Jake Warner, said: “Our band has been together since the start of the year and we are mostly inspired by 1980s pop with a bit of ‘Genesis’ progressive rock thrown in. We really enjoyed watching all the other bands on the night, and we all agreed there was an overall high standard from all the bands with a good variation of genres across the board.”
Level 3 Music student and drummer for ‘Maddison Avenue’, George Robey, said: “We were really pleased to take home the first place title for Fareham College again. As a band we’ve improved so much over the past year alone and we were proud to represent the college that brought us together and helped us reach the level we’re at now. We’re really hoping to stay together as a band after we finish our course.”
The band had a great time competing at the University amongst all the other excellent musicians. It was a great opportunity for the local music students to get together and support each other as well as having the chance to perform in front of a live audience.
Fareham College would like to congratulate all the students who took part and look forward to participating in the event again in the future.
