Fareham College Annual Awards 2018

Outstanding student achievement celebrated at our 2018 Annual Awards

Students at Fareham College, the UK’s College of the Year, were celebrating last night as it hosted its 2018 Annual Awards Ceremony to recognise student achievement during the 2017-18 academic year.

Held at Ferneham Hall, and attended by parents, schools, employers and teachers, the lavish awards evening celebrated a range of successes and accomplishments by Fareham College students, shining a light on exceptional academic excellence and personal development.

This year’s categories included: Outstanding Achievement; Higher Education Student of the Year, Exceptional Personal Endeavor; and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Invited to present the awards to the winning students were respected members of the Fareham community, including: Councillor Pamela Bryant, Deputy Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Louise Clubley, Deputy Mayoress of Fareham, Councillor Kathleen Jones, Mayor-Elect of Gosport, Mark Cooper from the University of Portsmouth, Duncan Glen from Knights Brown, Gerry Papworth from Steve Willis Training, Peter Marsh from Peter Marsh Consulting, Richard May from the Fareham Innovation Centre and Captain Rob Vitali RN, Commanding Officer HMS Collingwood.

The headline sponsor was the University of Portsmouth, and supporting the awards were a range of employers who work closely with the College to offer apprenticeships, and provide work experience opportunities to students including BAE Systems, South Western Railway and AMG Mercedes.

The Student of the Year award, which is seen as the highest honour of the evening, went to Natalie Kirby. Natalie, who is from Warsash and is currently studying Level 3 Production Arts (Specialist Make-Up) at the college, picked up the top accolade for demonstrating an outstanding overall commitment to all areas of their studies and activities across the college in general.

Speaking about winning the award, Natalie, said:

“I am absolutely thrilled to win the Student of the Year Award and was completely shocked when my name was read out. I’d like to thank all the staff at the college, and my family and friends, for supporting me throughout my time at Fareham. I’ve loved every minute and am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for me when my course finishes.”

Fareham College Principal, Nigel Duncan, added:

“Our Annual Awards are always a fantastic night and this one was no exception. They always give me an enormous sense of pride in our students as well as the teaching and support staff who work incredibly hard to guide them on their learning journey. I’d like to congratulate all those that were nominated for an award this evening and those that walked away deserving winners. I would also like to thank the businesses, parents and teaching staff that helped to make the night a success.”
