Fareham College recently celebrated the first year graduation of T Level students in Childcare and Early Years and Digital Production, Software Design and Development, achieving a fantastic 100% pass rate.
After the excitement and celebrations of Level 3 Results Day, we caught up with T Level Childcare student Holly to learn more about her course, plans for the future and how the T Level has supported her next steps.
“In September 2020, I started on Education and Childcare with the specialism of Early Education. During this course, I have learned how children develop and learn throughout their time within educational settings. I have also learnt how to support children in their holistic development whilst applying a broad range of theories to my work within my placement.
On the T Level, you complete a larger amount of placement hours compared to other courses, which I feel has been a massive benefit to my education whilst at Fareham College.
I was lucky enough to go on to do my placement in a variety of settings, such as local schools and pre-schools. In my first year, I did two block placements in a pre-school, which had a specialism in children with additional needs and then did another two block placements in a primary school which had a specialism in children with visual impairments. In my second year, I was able to select one placement to stay at for all placement blocks across the year, and I decided to do all my placement blocks in the primary school with the VI specialism.
In September, I am attending the University of Portsmouth to study Youth and Childhood Studies with Criminology. The course has helped me focus on the areas within childcare that I would like to work in.
The course is absolutely amazing for those who know they want to work with children and/or young people whilst being able to keep their future options open as the course can lead to universities, apprenticeships or straight out into the working world. The industry placement is definitely a reason to enrol on a T Level; you are able to gain so much more knowledge and experience in a practical setting. Not only this, but the course has helped me to make some great friendships both in college and at placement.
I could not recommend undertaking a T Level enough; this course has provided me with extensive knowledge and practical experience, which I believe is key when it comes to working with children and young people.”
