Students and apprentices from Fareham College had their achievements recognised at an awards evening for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The evening saw recognition for outstanding achievement, community impact and resilience, with a ceremony attended by over 50 proud students, families and lecturers.
Welcoming the guests, Vice Principal Ben Sheridan said: “It is the combined success of all our students that make Fareham College the vibrant and high-achieving college it is.”
“All of tonight’s students will have achieved something special. They all have something that makes them stand out from the crowd, something that they, their families, their peers, their lecturers, and the College should be immensely proud of.”
16 students were presented the Achievement Award, recognising not only academic success, but students who deliver high quality practical and technical work. Many winners have represented the college in national competitions and received exceptional praise from their industry placements.
The Contribution Award was awarded to 3 students who have positively impacted the college community and the surrounding neighbourhood. These winners were commended for being consistently kind, helping other students, spreading positivity, and volunteering in and outside of college.
Another 7 were celebrated with a Recognition Award, highlighting resilience, hard work and commitment. These winners showed great dedication and positive attitude, overcoming difficult challenges to achieve their goals.
Special Award Winners
A further 4 special awards were announced on the night, given to those who have stood out in multiple areas and superbly embodied college values: being respectful, showing creativity and innovation, and excelling in their studies.
Sofia Heorha-Kopulos was awarded Young Student of the Year, for her commitment to achieve her English GCSE after moving from Ukraine to the UK – attending all extra revision sessions and taking on extra work. She said: “Really unexpected to receive this award, it was very appreciated. I am proud I was able to achieve this.”
The Adult Student of the Year award went to Viktoriia Krupoderova, who shows amazing dedication to her goal of becoming a dental hygienist and therapist, travelling 23 miles to and from college twice a week and achieving distinctions. She said: “Very excited to have won but I had no expectations to win. I am very proud to have been awarded this. Without Fareham College I would not be able to achieve my dream of university.”
The winner of the Higher Education Student of the Year award was Nate Stevenson, who creates incredibly high quality work in his Creative Enterprise course, while advocating for equality and positivity within their cohort. They said: “Everyone worked really hard and are all deserving winners, however I am very grateful to have been chosen for this award.”
Finally, Apprentice of the Year was presented to Milo French, who has received outstanding feedback from his employer, John Reillys, about his skills, work ethic and willingness to learn and help others. He said: “It was nice to be recognised for how hard I worked and I am excited to have a long career ahead of me”
Well done to the award winners from Fareham College and thank you to the guests who came to celebrate and support them.
